Two men. Same age. Completely different outcomes.

I spoke with someone who was struggling. Sore knees. No spark. Couldn’t enjoy his sport socially anymore.

In the very same week, I had two messages from one of my clients, also 50 years old, who: - Ran a 1:41 half marathon Benched 100kg Still plays full men’s rugby with his elder sons.

Same decade of life. Same busy life. But poles apart with their training.

So why is one thriving while the other is falling behind? Because one ruthlessly prioritises his health. Because one trains with focus and direction. Because one has clear targets to aim for. And the other? Frankly, the complete opposite.

It got me thinking: is aiming for maintenance a good thing… or even possible? As a dad of three, I fully understand the ups and downs. But the truth is, as life goes on we’re fighting an inevitable decline. If you only aim to maintain, you’ll fall behind. The reality: to stay where you are, you need to be aiming higher. That means: – Training with intensity – Setting meaningful goals – Following a clear direction

The alternative? Keep doing what you’re doing. But one day, it will become a priority. And by then, the journey back will be much harder.

The choice is simple: 📉 Drift towards decline 📈 Or push to become stronger, fitter, and more resilient than you thought possible.

Side note:

I am writing this because it I find it deeply frustrating.

When I speak to people who aren't where they want to be I see the anguish in their face, the sag in their shoulders.

And I know what it feels like. I have been there.

But I also know the other side, I see it every day.

You just need to take the leap.

Up to you. If you want the clarity, structure, and accountability to move from “maintenance” to real progress, book a free 30-minute training audit with me.
